No one really likes a humblebragger , let ’s be good . It ’s always so obvious what they ’re trying to do . They do n’t need their hard oeuvre to go unnoticed , but at the same time , they do n’t need to be too obvious when blowing their own trumpet . It ’s a second of a catch 22 .

Now , a   new study   shows that being a humblebragger actually makes people dislike you ( pretend to be shocked ) more than when you ’re brag in a real and earnest way of life .

The study was publish in theJournal of Personality and Social Psychologyand guide by Ovul Sezer , a behavioural scientist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill .

“ It ’s such a coarse phenomenon . All of us bonk some people in our lives , whether in societal medium or in the work , who do this galling thing , ” Sezer toldTime .

Sezer and her colleague look into how often people were hangdog of humblebragging , which can be defined as “ crowing mask by a ailment or humbleness ” . According to the researchers , this is done " to both elicit understanding and impress others " .

Sezer noted that humblebragging comes in two different shape . The first is humbleness - free-base , an representative being , “ I ca n’t think I get the highest grade in my class ” .
