Frank Herbert ’s Dune is one of the most iconic pieces of science fable ever . It ’s been adapted into springy - natural process doubly , with varying story of success , but most fans agree no one has come in close to getting it right yet . But mayhap Denis Villeneuve can .
Villeneuve is the director of Prisoners , Enemy , Sicario , and the approaching Arrival . He ’s also guide Blade Runner 2 and , in a new consultation , narrate Variety he ’s always dreamed of remaking Dune .
I had been wanting to do sci - fi for a very long time . 2001 : A Space Odyssey is a motion picture that really impressed me as a stripling . And also Blade Runner . And Close Encounters of the Third Kind is also one of my favourite . I ’m always looking for scifi material , and it ’s unmanageable to find original and inviolable material that ’s not just about weaponry . A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt “ Dune , ” but it ’s a foresighted procedure to get the rightfield , and I do n’t cogitate I will succeed . Also I would love to write something myself . I have two [ scifi ] projects right now that are in very [ other ] stages . It ’s too other to talk about them .
There is so much enceinte hooey in that quotation mark . That ’s he ’s expect for scifi material . That ’s he ’s go two projects he ’s develop now and , mostly , that he want to adjust Dune . You just feel he ’s got the correct sensibility to nail the expression and tone of Herbert ’s vision . Unfortunately , there ’s that rights outlet ( /Film reports they are presently back with the the Herbert the three estates after year at Paramount ) and cinema like Jodorowsky ’s Dune , which illustrate just how bloody unmanageable a close adaptation would be .
But , if it has to be done , Mr. Villeneuve , you should do that . We ’d love to see it .
