Now that Disney owns Fox , Mickey Mouse has a new sandpile to diddle in .

Now that some time has passed since the closing of the learning , Disney has decided to axseveral splendid original film idea Fox had in the works — David Petersen’sMouse Guardand Noelle Stevenson’sLumberjanesamong them . And though its Marvel property may get the newspaper headline , Disney now have hundreds of well - known films Fox released in its 80 plus age of existence . You know the big 1 : Alien , Planet of the anthropoid , Die severely , Predator , X - Men , etc .

Considering Disney is already go to look at that catalogue toremake some films such asHome Alone and Night at the Museum , and well , the lastsome - odd class of movie greenlit , we can assume even more rehash are on the style . Here are some sci - fi picture show from deeper in Disney ’s new catalogue we think are prime for a counter .

Space Camp

Joaquin Phoenix and Kate Capshaw carbon monoxide - starred in this 1986 picture show about kids who are mistakenly sent to actual space during Space Camp . The photographic film was a bomb , gross less than $ 10 million , but the idea remains levelheaded : Part summertime coterie movie , part gravitation . modernise it with a great hurl , and it feel like something that could be first-class . We doubt Phoenix would refund … but you never know .

Enemy Mine

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen , this 1985 film starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr.blended science fiction with social commentaryin an interesting , exciting room . The account is about a human and an alien who hate each other but are strand together on a life-threatening planet and learn to become friends . Again , it ’s a concept that we ’ve seen prison term and prison term again , so with a bit of name recognition , it feels like a property that could have raw life history breathe into it .

Alien Nation

Before Netflix hadBright , Fox had Alien Nation , a 1988 write up about an foreign raceway that openly lives among us , as tell through the interactions between a human cop and alien cop . The estimate was so strong even then , it was spin out into a TV show , comics , and more , in a move that proved to be way ahead of its time . The problem with this entryway is thatFox was already work on a rebootbut Disney hasreportedly kill it — which sucks , because like Enemy Mine , if it befall it would be a dandy way for a filmmaker to talk about modern social upshot through a science fable lense , redeem unassailable , paying attention content in an easy digestible , and vendable , package .

Rookie of the Year

Two musical genre that do not get much love these days are mutant movies and jolly movies — like this 1993 picture show about a boy who hurts his limb in a way that mean he can become a Major League Baseball player . The film was a hit and still has a passel of fans but feels ripe for a revisit . Can you just imagine somehow blending science fiction into the mix ? Like maybe the fry gets a transmitted upgrade but instead of becoming a superhero , he becomes a ballplayer or else ? ( Bonus , this one might actually happen too . )

Assassin’s Creed

Video game franchises can be complicated when it come to the rights , so we do n’t know if Fox even has a title to this anymore . But , if it does ( and even though this movie was released rather late ) , it could do with a reboot . It ’s a absorbing , action - packed story , sweep 100 and technology , that deserves better . Plus , with sequels burst , there are plenty of unexampled quality and angles to mine .

Cocoon

Yes , this 1985 Ron Howard film was a hit . Yes , it ’s already had a subsequence . And yes , the original is really very good . But it ’s also a film that has mostly leave the public awareness . Who peach about Cocoon anymore ? That hint a remake could make . The taradiddle , of course of action , is about how a hidden alien race bear upon the lives of a retirement community . It ’s odd , it ’s poignant , and all the pieces are so strong , a remake could severely be as fantastic as the archetype .

Jumper

Asone of three people on the planetwho likes Doug Liman ’s 2008 adaptation of Steven Gould ’s novel , maybe I ’m bias . But the mind of the great unwashed who have the ability to teleport anywhere is too awesome to snub . Even YouTube take notice , adapt another Gould novel , Impulse , with Liman as a producer . Though the property was n’t handled all that well on the big screen , it ’s a super cool idea that could be molded in any number of ways .

Big

Always think — just because a moving-picture show is remade , that does n’t efface the original . I say that because I love the 1988Penny Marshall filmstarring Tom Hanks . Everyone does . But that was over 30 years ago . Kids and adults today still fantasize about being young again or grown - up . It ’s an estimation has been revisited innumerable meter ininnumerable format . So why not utilize the name brand of Big to demonstrate a young take that feels more 2019 ? Seems like a no brainer .

The Simpsons Movie

It ’s been over 10 years since The Simpsons made its way to the big screen and , somehow , the series is still locomote strong . fan have been ask the creators about a sequel for geezerhood , so you know it ’s marinating , and , frankly , now is the time . It feel like The Simpsons is fadingso what secure way to give it a jolt than an epic return to the bighearted screen ?

Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League

Here ’s the matter : When the 1984 movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th attribute announce this sequel in its credits , it was mostly a jocularity , which happened a gang in the ‘ 80s . But the idea of a suave , swaggering , inter - dimensional hero is still as coolheaded as ever . So why not make that “ sequel ” now but really make it a reboot ? Even if masses do n’t cognize the original , Buckaroo Banzai is a great name . With the right casting , audiences would show up whether they ’d hear of it or not . ( Note : this one might be hard because of rights publication , which Kevin Smith found outabout a few years ago . )

Update , 4:14 p.m. : Kevin Smith himself just let us sleep together that Buckaroo Banzai is n’t even a Fox property , though he does agree that the continuation should get made anyway :

Pssssst ! Buckaroo is not a Fox property – @MGMTelevisionhas it . But you ’re right : Team Banzai has waited long enough to fight the World Crime League … https://t.co / YiJJ0GVQ3C
