I ’ve heard it so many time over the last few years , “ Oh Arrow ? I block off watch because Oliver Queen is terrible . ” Arrow , CW ’s flagship superhero show has long had a problem : its titular persona is an inflame hemorrhoidal anus of a character .
Over the last six years Oliver Queen has made every unsound determination , grouse at every shaft of light of fair weather , brooded over every minor rebuff , and badly diminished his use of the salmon ladder . And what is even the stage of Arrow if we do n’t get a salmon run breaking ? !
But do n’t worry . Now he ’s rivaled by the adult arse in Gotham ! Also , on last dark ’s Elseworlds , Part 2 he was roasted for an minute straight , and nothing earn viewer goodwill faster than an 60 minutes - long roast of Oliver by the quality and author of three different shows .
It was beautiful .
You should really watch the episode itself to fully treasure the roasting . It involves Kara gauge him for his slutty twenty , Kara and Barry judging him for his tendency to overshoot destinations while in super - speed mode and his unbelief in Batman , and EVERYONE judging him for keeping secrets . The writers even create a vista in which he darts into a room , shoots perch at Nora Fries , and accidentally doses himself and Barry with Scarecrow ’s fearfulness gas . Apparently , no one can fuck up a design quite like the Flash — whom Oliver still is , his body - switching dangerous undertaking with Barry have continued unabated .
As with thefirst instalment of the crossover , this sequence focuses on Barry and Oliver struggling to interpret one another while a very wise Kara wonders what the hell their problem is . But a set of me — most of me — is willing to forgive it . This is only the second part of a three - part saga . The first instalment sharpen on Barry and his takings . The 2d concenter on Ollie and his issues . So it stands to reason tomorrow night ’s close will center on Kara and her take . Also ? This episode was so much fun .
After all the references across the Arrowverse to Batman , Bruce Wayne , and their hometown , we eventually make our mode to Gotham City . It is a shit hole . Rich people are ferried around town in hired armored truck just to do a bit of shopping , and mugging involve five guy in tactical armour . scrap litter the empty streets , and even Wayne Tower is a raging mess of parting , refuse , and … vines ? This is a nasty dystopian landscape — a time to come where there is n’t just a disruption but a chasm between the fertile and the poor .
And Kate Kane has chosen to stay behind and endeavor to deliver it . She ’s living in the dilapidated Wayne Tower , which she hopes to rehabilitate with her vast circumstances . Ruby Rose as Kate Kane is … just Ruby Rose . Gorgeous , a little androgynous , flirty , and so vivid you ’re not sure if they ’re cool or that kind of pretty and stupidJon Hamm played so well in 30 Rock .
We do n’t really get enough of her as Kane to know more than “ Wow , the blazer and destiny of forearm tattoos is a look I can get behind . ”
As Batwoman she ’s the form of surly Dark Knight we merit ( it helps that she has fewer lines ) . There ’s no grimdark articulation that makes your throat hurt . or else , there ’s some dead lovely competency as a hero . After years of seeing Oliver ’s Batman impression , it ’s a joy to see someone really lean into their use of contraption to take down bad guys . She also takes down a fear - gassed Flash and Arrow . At the same time . When Caitlin appear on in awe and tell , “ Who are you ? ” I felt the need to ask the same at place .
The only coup d’oeil of who Kate Kane / Batwoman really is is via her interaction with Kara . Barry and Oliver might be the marquee team - up of the Arrowverse , but Kate and Kara , cousins to more famed men heroes , are theWorld ’s Finestwe’ve been hold off for . The two woman instantaneously have a rapport , with Kate revealing a dorky undercurrent as she explains her plan for the tug . Kara , naturally , is a dork too , haplessly butterfly with Kate and point out on her tattoo while also carefully question her for data to serve save Barry and Ollie . And when they see each other at the end of the sequence , now in their various super causa , Kara courteously wait until everyone leaves to differentiate Kate she get it on her secret . The way Kate chuckle gives me hopes that Ruby Rose might have some mental ability for act as underneath that tremendous look she serves — it sort of remind me of former episodes of Arrow , when Stephen Amell had to rely on stunt doubles and the Salmon River ladder to make us want to ascertain the show .
