“ The former intent for those hoverboards were much bigger , ” Belltold Uproxx . “ More like wake boards and they had a lot more power machine on them , a lot of personalization that [ Griff ’s ] crew would have done to them . They were much more luxuriant . But they maintain evolve and whittling back till it became the minimal boards . ”
The Uproxx interview with Bell has slew of other behind - the - scenes trivium from BTTF2 including his marching ordering from the producer : “ We do n’t have a book . All we know is they go 30 years in the futurity and there ’s something squall hoverboards . So occur up with some clobber . ”
And issue forth up with some stuff they did , create a flick that left an entire generation delight with the years to come — and more than a little foiled that westill do n’t have our hoverboards .

you may read the integral interview with Bell over atUproxx . He mouth about surveillance , hologram sharks , and the manner of 2015 . Bell ’s reflection on his own childhood in the 1960s and the optimistic futurism of that era is particularly gripping .
“ I grow up as a Thomas Kid in the ’ 60s and all the images of the future back then were optimistic , ” Bell told Uproxx . “ We ’re going to be having super acid ingroup and motorcar and city under bubble and there would be peace and no bigotry . A lot of wonderful matter and a lot of that has n’t come about . ”

In the oddment it would seem that Bell ’s bequest as a Baby Boomer was to slip away the Aaron’s rod of affirmative futurism to Gen X and Millennial child around the world , only to set us all up yet again for disappointment that the world is still so busted .
