originally today J.J. Abrams and company released the first undecomposed long spirit at Super 8 , and we picked it asunder to try and reveal all of the concealed nuggets of game .
The dawdler starts and the Son for Amblin and Bad Robot are back to back . Yes , it ’s OK to get excited .
Aaaand boom we ’re transported to Anywheresville US . Or , what we like to call “ Steven Spielberg ’s movietown . ” The shops , cars , everything is , well , a perfect film set . Sure , it ’s like calculate at the past tense through magnificently orchestrate rise coloured meth , but we eat the Spielberg goop up every time .
According to the synopsis the movie is technically set in the year of 1979 in a “ small Ohio townsfolk . ”
We meet the main fictional character and his ring of awing friend who make film for sport . The main reference ’s dad ( Kyle Chandler ) disapprove of this hobby , but more on that later . For now , just love the delicious look of this scene . This picture show already feels like Stand By Me , Goonies , and ET all in one .
Chandler has a voiceover in which ( we ’re assuming ) he ’s telling his Logos that “ thing have change for us . ” We then see this necklace swinging back and off . clear , this is what has “ change ” for the father and son . Whomever have on this necklace is no longer around .
reaffirm our possibility that Chandler and Logos are either are from a single parent household ( a common Spielberg picture trope ) you see footage of the family during happier clock time .
The necklace returns . clear it belong to the Mother . But who is observe this sorry video ?
The son ! Does this mean that Chandler is n’t handling the break up , death , abandonment , tragedy , whatever , badly ? Most potential he ’s demanding that his son give up the sport after - shoal natural process of making “ freak movies . ”
Unfazed by his father ’s demands the boy says . “ I have to help Charles fetch up his movie . ”
This is Charles ( to the right field ) .
But this is probably the real reason he want to finish the movie . Elle Fanning . Also wear a necklace .
And could this be a costume test for the picture that Charles is prepare ? Spielberg made a lot of war films when he was new . I would n’t be terrible surprised if they used his infamous old trick to make imitation film bomb by bury sticks in the Baroness Dudevant and having actors stomp on them to create approximate - miss explosion .
Chandler protests that his boy should n’t spend so much time with kids that run around with cameras making monster moving picture , but clearly this is where his son ’s nerve is . count at all the models in his way . He ’s presently paint a Hunchback model . What else do you spot ?

The diminutive film crew flees !
But they pull up stakes the tv camera behind . The SUPER 8 television camera . Which no doubt becharm some amazing hooey on film .
Everything explodes .
And the “ alien ” “ elephantine mecha ” “ gov . make mutant ” escapes into the lowly Ohio townsfolk .
The metier is cognisant of the boastful exploding train disaster .
The Word is listening to his walkie talking picture … or is it a gun ? Spielberg jest !
The military rolls in . With guns . And possibly on the 4th of July .
The crew go bad back to the scene of the offense to survey the harm .
Also possibly still in their movie outfits . Are these jackanapes making a zombie warfare flick ?
Oh and by the direction , Kyle Chandler is the SHERIFF .
But Noah Emmerich is playing someone cry Nelec from the Air Force , who has seemingly taken over this lowly town .
Then the unearthly clobber starts happening . A interpreter says , “ We ’re getting calls from multitude receive local dogs . Only , the calls are n’t local . ” Meaning all of the towns dogs are getting the HELL out of scheme . Because they love something and we do n’t . Cue the dog mathematical function , how much you want to play that the center of that circle is Chandler ’s town ?
Even the main persona ’s dog , Lucy , is MIA .
Then the “ alien ” starts attacking extremity of the biotic community . With H2O , or perhaps telekinesis !
The computer memory shop assistant is carried off . What , no Slush - O ware placement ? Boo .
Switch to a shot of the exterior of the shop , after the attack . All that remains of the front of the store is a giant fix . Is this the size of the monster ?
The Sheriff says 9 more hoi polloi have gone overleap , and break off to pick up an ominous small-arm of blue glass . Or alien skin .
A piece of alien rubble ( or a tin ball ) in the Thomas Kid bedroom levitates and then takes off across the elbow room .
It crashes through the the Space Shuttle poster , co-occurrence , we think not .
Framed in the hole the tin Lucille Ball created is some sort of Water Tower . Might be significant later .
The armed forces labialise up the locals . soldierly police force ?
Gratuitous ass dead reckoning . Also reveals that the civilian are likely stuck under the thumb of the military for some meter .
Gorgeous family dinner party vista , it ’s like every undivided Spielberg mesa shot ever . Just some sure-enough fashioned good camera work .
A bloody bridge player clean some film off the ground .
While in the refugee camp the kids cook up a plan — “ we have to find this affair ! ” GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE .
Something turns the cars on and off , we think it ’s the alien .
A menage explodes .
A cooler smashes a playground .
A bally man screams GO ! Perhaps this is the owner of the hired hand on the film earlier ? Yes ? Yes .
A bus drive on two wheels ! It kind of looks like the Sheriff is behind the wheel .
The townsfolk starts blowing up . There ca n’t be much town left to explode before long .
Before .
BOOM .
